Nelda Lucille Stephens

Nelda Lucille Stephens, of Andover, Illinois passed away on December 21, 2023, following a two year battle with vascular dementia. Nel passed away at Foothills Transitional Care, in Maryville, Tennessee.

Nel was born on July 19, 1933, on a farm near Lowden, Iowa. She was the daughter of Herman and Dorothy Roehrs Witte. She was a graduate of Durant, Iowa High School. She went on to graduate from cosmetology school. She also worked for Travelers Insurance Company.

Nel married Robert "Mike" Stephens in December of 1955. Following marriage she enjoyed life as a wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed good times travelling with friends and family.

Nel is survived by her two daughters, Denise {Brent) Johns, Maryville, Tennessee, and Lisa Lee, Denver, Colorado. Four grandchildren, Danielle (Lee) Johns Bristol, Nashville, Tennessee; Nicholas Johns, Reston, Virginia; Brandon Johns, Nashville, Tennessee; and Alexa Johns, Maryville, Tennessee; and one great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband Robert "Mike" Stephens in November 2022, son Douglas Reid Stephens and her parents.

Private services to be held in Andover, Illinois at a later date.

Special thanks to neighbors Steve Sayre and Nancy Gray for all their help in assisting Nel and Mike in the last few years of their lives.
