James M. Wilson, 77, of Childersburg, Alabama, died January 26, 2024 at home after an extended illness.

Jim was born on January 25, 1947, to Glenn and Phyllis Haddick Wilson. His childhood in Silvis, Illinois, was full of bike rides, pick-up games, and various mischief. He was an active alumni of United Township High School, class of 1965. He graduated from Augustana College, where a blind date turned into a 55-year marriage to Barbara Rauworth.

Throughout his career, Jim worked in management for International Harvester, J.I. Case, Butler Buildings, and VAE-Nortrak. Despite various titles, everyone knew him as The Boss. He was also known as a go-kart racer, gas station pump jockey, railroad switchman, gentleman farmer, car wash proprietor, fudge chef, ace whiffle ball pitcher, and world-class Easter basket hider.

However, the greatest joy and blessing for Jim were his six grandchildren. His love and devotion knew no bounds as he actively participated in every stage of their lives. From playful interactions to special vacations and attendance at every sporting, drama, or music event, Jim embraced the role of a doting grandfather with unwavering dedication. Also, he knew that the most important part of the event was the visit to the concession stand with them afterwards. After retiring, he enjoyed traveling and planning yearly family vacations.

Survivors (and spouses) include his wife Barbara, son Benjamin (Julie Kerssen), Seattle, WA; and daughters Joanna Teter (Kurtis), Huntsville, AL; and Jenna Johnson (Matt), Birmingham, AL. Grandchildren: Karina Telmont, Zachary, Alexander, and Joshua Teter, Samuel and A.J. Johnson. Siblings: David Wilson, Spokane, WA; Sarah Pottorf, Huntsville, AL; Carol Miller, Geneseo, IL; and Nancy Dunham, Peoria, IL.

A celebration of Jim's life will be held on February 25th at 2:00 pm at Radney-Smith Funeral Home in Sylacauga, AL. Visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 pm. A reception will be held following the service.
