Mr. Stan VanDerSnick, 86, of Lancaster passed away Sunday, February 18, 2024. He lived a remarkable life – full of family, career accomplishments, hobbies and service to his community.

Stan was born in 1937 in Geneseo, Illinois to parents Raymond and Esther VanDerSnick. After graduating from Bradley University as a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon, Stan embarked on accomplished engineering career spanning over 30 years. He worked as a design engineer for General Motors plants – AC Spark Plug in Milwaukee, WI and Guide Lamp in Anderson, IN. He then founded his own firm, Van’s Design Service in Elwood, IN.

Above all, Stan cherished time spent with his wife of 63 years, Virginia VanDerSnick, who he always called the light of his world. Stan met Virginia while in college, and they raised three sons – Blaine (Jo), Roger (Dawn), and Jason. He was the proud grandfather of Megan, Nicole, Samantha; and great-grandfather of Adrian and Karelyn.

Stan loved the outdoors, especially bird hunting and walleye fishing near their summer place on Eagles Nest Lake near Ely, MN for over 20 years. He was locally famous for feeding the duck families who would come running at the mere sight of him, earning the nickname “Duck Commander.”

In Lancaster, Stan was an active member and deacon of the Oak Ridge ARP Church, the Charlotte Rifle & Pistol Club, as well as a life member of NRA. He volunteered his time for local causes he believed in such as Hope and was an Earth Team Volunteer of the U S Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service, then employed as a Conservation Aide. Always friendly and quick to lend a hand, tell a joke, or share one of his many stories to all who knew him, Stan embodied a caring nature combined with midwestern charm and wit – he never met a stranger.

Stan leaves behind his wife, Virginia; their three sons and extended family; as well as his many close friends and all those whose lives he touched with his generosity, humor and adventurous spirit.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 23, 2024 at 3:00 p.n. at Oak Ridge ARP Church Lancaster, followed by a visitation at the fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Stan’s memory to Oak Ridge ARP Church, 2774 McIlwain Road, Heath Springs, SC 29058.

Stan VanDerSnick will be dearly missed and always remembered for his love of life that brough joy to so many people.
